During more than seven hours of surgery following the shooting, doctors successfully removed a 10mm bullet from Morris’s spinal canal, where it had lodged between two vertebrae. They were unable to save his left kidney, however.
First Sgt. D.S. Adams, who with Morris supervises the troopers assigned to Fauquier and Rappahannock counties, said the many getwell wishes Morris has received have buoyed his spirits. •
Ms. Caldwell said the shooting, which happpened while Morris’s tactical team was practicing room entries, is still being investigated by the department’s Bureau of Professional Standards and its Department of Training.
The investigators “are specifically looking at training matters and aspects which might be changed,” she said. A preliminary report is expected in the near future, she added.
