The subject of the Disney theme park was first brought up by Phil Irwin, who urged the supervisors to consider tijghtening the county’s zoning and subdivision ordinances and “not let Massies Comer become Tysons Comer. Developers will be delighted to punch holes in the ordinances, and we need to know where we’re the weakest,” he said.

The supervisors did not respond to this suggestion.

Later they considered the impact of Disney’s America on local tourism. Jackson District representative Ellis Bingham had asked to have this put on the agenda.

“It’s an emotional issue,” Col. Bingham said. “I want to compliment Jay Katzen for standing up and voting for this principal. He’s done an admirable job. I think the whole area is going to prosper from it.”
