Steve Critzer: “I think the Inn plays an important role in the town. With the passage of the meals and lodging tax several years ago, the income from the Inn alone is a large sum of money. When combined with the other restaurant and B & B’s, it enables us to fund many projects.”
Charlie Eldred: “I think it is definitely good. It certainly brings people to the town of a respectable nature who have money to spend in the shops as well as at the Inn. This certainly benefits the economy of the town in addition to the restaurant and lodging tax which they pay to the town, which is directly beneficial to the town.”
Reinhardt Lynch: “I think The Inn brings several things to the town that would not otherwise be here: a clientele that supports other businesses, such as B & B’s and shops. The meals and lodging tax is without question good for the town. The individual’s taxes and property taxes are kept lower because the funding is actually coming from outside. ”
Newbill Miller: “I think it is good. It is a tremendous gold mine for the town’s treasury, provides employment and helps the economy and shops in town. As it exists right now it is fine.”
Janice Moffett: “I have the utmost respect for the blood, sweat and tears that goes into building a successful business, but I think that any business in that position has to be very careful to balance the best interests of the business and the best interests of the community.”
Florence Tupper: “I think it is good. It brings in money for the town. It is good if they consider the residents that are here. The residents’ ancestors have lived here and are responsible for keeping the small town beauty. They have worked hard doing so. I hope my grandchildren can come back here or will it be too expensive? Will it be another Williamsburg or Middleburg? We do not want to push out the natives. Do people come here to just go to the Inn or do they want to visit little Washington?”
Mary Updike: “I do not think it is bad if they would contain it and they would not want to get bigger and bigger and bigger. I am sure we need the money from the taxes they pay.”
