An Ainissville man who allegedly drove off from the Crown Service Station on Broadview Avenue in Warrenton at 3 a.m. April 1 was cited for a number of violations, including reckless driving, attempting to elude a police officer, and hit and run when officers finally got his vehicle stopped in Rappahannock County, reports filed with the Virginia State Police and the Warrenton Police Department said.
Donald A. Settle, 24, reportedly entered the gas station and pumped $11.83 in gas into his 1986 Ford pickup truck and drove off without paying, Warrenton Police Chief Dale Koglin said. Employees of the store contacted the police and Officer D.L. Hensley responded to the scene and dispatched a description of the truck to other officers, he said.
Trooper T.R. Fleming spotted Mr. Settle westbound on U.S. 211 and attempted to stop the vehicle, a report filed by Trooper Fleming said. Mr. Settle refused to stop the truck and headed into Ainissville where he rammed into the side of Trooper Fleming’s cruiser on Route 628 in Culpeper County, the report said. As a result of this act, he was charged with reckless driving and hit and run in Culpeper, the report said.
