Michele Rouse’s sanctioned winner Political Angel took the early lead, shadowed closely by ’93 series champ Tom’s War, Ready Snodgrass up, and Duke Kahana Moku, Beth Newman.
“I was a little worried about Duke in the early running,” Ms. Newman, the winner, said later. “He didn’t take a big hold like he normally does. He warmed up alright, but he was kind to rate . . , unusual for him. When we raced down the [very steep, final] hill, though, he picked it right up.”
