Coach Howard said his players are improving, however. “I am looking to win our first game by the end of this week. We are a better team than what we have been showing on the field,” he said.
A1 Kellert pitched five solid innings and gave up five earned runsi “It was a gutty performance,” said Coach Howard.
Junior James Eastham hit three for three. He scored a run, had one RBI and a stolen base.
Luke Zindel hit one for three. He pitched the last inning and struck out three batters.
Daniel Dodson and Barry Tummeyer also hit one for three.
The next games on the schedule are Clarke County Wednesday and at home against George Mason Friday at 5 p.m.
The RCHS softball team also lost their game on Monday. They were defeated by Manassas Park, 19-5.
Coach Renee Leake said, “The hitting is fine but the defense is just not there. We were in the game until the last inning, when Manassas Park scored nine runs.”
Amy Payne pitched the first five innings, and Dietrich Beaver finished the last two.
Leah Marlett and Dietrich Beaver both hit triples, Bonnie Jewell hit a double, and Kari Kerr hit two singles. Cindy Welch and Marsha Freeman both hit singles.
