Talk of the Town, the new gift and accessories store at the comer of Gay and Jett streets in Washington opened officially last Saturday, but shopkeepers Mary McCabe and daughter Elaine Kramer held a preview opening, complete with plenty of food and beverages, on Friday evening.
Many friends and passersby stopped in to see the newest shop in town, brimming with new inventory.
Mrs. McCabe and Mrs. Kramer first seriously discussed opening a store together last October, shortly after Elaine’s marriage to local cabinetmaker Peter Kramer. Mr. Kramer provided a space for them in the front of his building on Gay Street, and helped with the construction.
After looking at other businesses and doing research into what type of store and inventory would be good for Rappahannock County, they began visiting trade shows in New York, Atlanta and Washington, D.C. “It was hard picking merchandise that is affordable but different and unique,” said Mrs. McCabe. “Our goal is to make it very easy to
