Trainer-rider Michael Elmore unleashed a devastating move from King's Galley at the head of the Thornton Hill Farm stretch to win the Elzy Brown Memorial open timber at Sunday’s Rappahannock Hunt Point-to-Point.
“We didn’t get the lead until after the last [fence],” said rider Elmore following his victory with Mary Braga’s gelding. The 10-yearold galloped to open his ’94 account with a five-length score at the rescheduled Rappahannock races held April 3.
The event’s original early March date met with frozen conditions, forcing the hunt to move back to Easter Sunday. Glorious holiday weather prevailed, a smaller than usual but enthusiastic crowd attended and a full, competitive racing program was offered at the Rappahannock County course.
