District Leader, Mathews Arm is a self-contained campground that can be closed entirely without affecting any other part of the park operation.
“Under current legislation, only a small portion of the camping fees collected comes back to the park, and it doesn’t come close to offsetting the expense of operating the campground,” Mr. Hakel explained. “If the equation changes, and we are able to retain revenues to directly offset the expense to operate it, we’ll reconsider our decision to keep the campground closed.”
Supt. Wade said park staff will continue to work closely with local visitor bureaus and Chambers of Commerce to inform visitors of the availability of privately-owned campgrounds adjacent to the north end of the park.
A listing of nearby campgrounds has already been prepared in cooperation with the Shenandoah Valley Travel Association and the Foothills Travel Association.
Tennis Lessons

Local tennis professional Hunt Harris, in co-operation with the Rappahannock Parks and Recreation Association, will be offering a series of tennis clinics in April at the county park.
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons and evenings are available times for Hunt, and final scheduling will be based upon public response. A minimum of three students per class is required.
