School Budget

The Board of Supervisors voted to pay off the debt to the Virginia Retirement System for school employees who took early retirement, and then adopted the $5.8 million budget as presented.
The effect of this was to free up $27,990 that had been budgeted for the first year’s payment on early retirement to be applied toward continuing Operation Safe Haven.
Operation Safe Haven, a program to help at risk students, had been funded by a federal grant. The grant will not be continued for the next school year. The School Board did not include funds in the budget because School Superintendent David Gangel had assured the Board of Supervisors when he asked for appropriations of the federal grant, that the locality
