Mr. Massie suggested that the supervisors consider closing the extension office. “We need to see if there is support in the community to keep the office open, if we’re not going to have an agriculture agent,” he said.
The county’s cost for the extension service is about $47,000, but that would be somewhat reduced if it is only for one agent and a secretary.
County Attorney Peter Luke said the supervisors need to settle the issue soon, because he is in the process of drawing up a new lease for the space.
