Warm sunshine, the garden and the smell of flowers woo us out in spring. Communitities come alive with events, picnics and memorable gatherings.
On Friday, May 13 at Rappahannock High School, local pianist/composer Peter Kater has invited highly acclaimed Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai to join in creating an evening of unforgettable music.
Beginning at 8 p.m. Mr. Kater and Mr. Nakai will take the audience on a musical journey. Fans have come to recognize their music as deeply mystical, powerfully moving. Their improvisations, and Mr. Rater’s creative compositions have awed audiences worldwide. n
One critical review states, “The honest expression and simplicity of the improvisations make it hard not to be touched.”
Mr. Rater’s enchanting compositions, to be be performed on grand piano, will be accompanied by Mr. Nakai’s traditional flute, rattles, eagle bone whistle and the violin of special guest Cecil Hooker of Trapezoid.
These two have collaborated on three recordings. All reached Billboard charts. Five of Mr. Rater’s seventeen recordings have received “Best Album of the Year” nominations from the National Assoda
