State election law provides that in the event of a tie in any county, city or town election, “the electoral board shall proceed publicly to determine by lot which of the candidates shall be declared elected.”
The Electoral Board, comprised of Sheilah Sweet, Mary Edna Schaefer, and Chairman Chris Parrish was scheduled to conduct a drawing Wednesday morning.
Brad Fisher received one writein vote, and Ed Barton received two write-in votes, both for council seats.
Upon hearing of his being elected to Mayor, Mr. Willis said, “I think the town did an excellent job of electing a new council. It will bring new ideas to the town. I look forward to serving on the new council.”
Mr. Zumwalt was delighted to hear that he was elected. He said, “I am amazed and impressed by the voter turnout today. I am glad they are concerned about the town. That is democracy in action. It looks like a good balance.”
