Clerk Diane Bruce said she had been paying attention to the road signs in surrounding counties. “They look horrible,” she said. “I hate to see the blue signs and the bright green signs. If we’ve got the map and the map books and the radio, we ought to ask ourselves, do we really need street signs stuck up. . . It’s such an urban thing to do.” She said the signs would take away from the county’s beauty.

Hampton District representative Mike Massie said the county does not have to have signs.

Chairman Hubert Gilkey and Sheriff John Henry Woodward disagreed saying the Fire and Rescue Association wants the signs and that VDOT requires that they be green and blue.

From the audience Joy Sloane asked who will own the list of names and addresses. She said the county should sell the list to make some money back from the cost of getting the system. '

The supervisors said they had agreed not to sell the list and that there would be no printed copy.
