“We made the other team run after the ball and chase it. The other team was physically much stronger but we outplayed them,” said Coach Uli Maeyer of his team’s play against Madison.
Eddie Sauce had two penalty kicks, Willie Shanks scored two goals, and Jonathan Maeyer scored one.
Coach Maeyer said, “It was a delight to see how they took the blows, never complained and kept their mind on the game.”
Adam Kerr was knocked out for four or five minutes during the game, but is apparently doing fine now.
Camilla Josephson started as a wing in the game against RMA on Monday. She and Willie Shanks each scored one goal. “They showed class, played smart and outplayed RMA, though RMA dominated in the last half hour,” said Coach Maeyer.
The soccer team will play Madison at home this Thursday. They also play at home against RMA on Saturday, at 1 p.m.
Dining a track meet With George Mason and Manassas Park last week, the RCHS track arid field team earned 49 points for the girls and 52 points for the boys. Nearly all members of the team have earned letters. The top scorers are Jason Waters with 68 points, Mark Jenkins with 51, Willie Shanks with 50, Holly Gangel with 46 and Dawn Havstad with 21.
Holly Gangel won the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:59, placed second in the 3200 meter run in 13:02, and jumped 4’2” in the high jump.
Mark Jenkins finished first in the 3200 meter run at 11:01. Jason Waters won the 1600 meter run in 4:54 and jumped 5’9” in the high jump. Willie Shanks won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.92, and the 200 meter at 24.65. He jumped 18’2 3/4” in the long jump to finish second.
Tucker Rogers placed first in the 800 meter run at 2:22.22. In the 300 meter hurdles, Amber Earley’s time of 59.0 earned her first place. Sarah Gentry finished second with a time of 1:05.23. Tomeka Carey jumped 141 1/2” in the long jump to finish first. She ran the 100 meter dash in 14.59 to finish second.
Dawn Havstad placed second in the discus and shotput, with distances of 71’4” and 25’6 3/4”, respectively. Trade Swift ran the 400 meter in 1:10.42 to place second. Jason Grimsley’s time of 58:46 earned him second place also. Both 400 me
