asked if the board included the $27,990 saved in the budget, could the school system keep the employee on staff. Dr. Gangel said, “I don’t know.” Later he said he would do what he could with the funds to see that the program continues.
Mr. Estes asked Dr. Gangel to consider approval of the position of "Learning Environment Coordinator” a temporary position. Dr. Gangel said he would look at the issue again at budget time next year.
Mr. Massie noted that in the past the Board of Supervisors approved the school budget by category rather than by bottom line. He asked why that had changed.Chairman Hubert Gilkey said that was becuase the “relations between the board and school superintendent weren’t as wonderful as they are now.”
Mr. Estes said, “I would like to approve by bottom line. In a tight budget you have to make shifts, but I wouldn’t like to get away from the intent of this budget.”
The budget was approved unanimously.
