TOWN EMPLOYEE

The Town of Washington is seeking qualified applicants for the permanent, part-time position of Town Employee. The position is for approximately 20 hours a week, but may expand based on the demand. The position may also require some on-call activity during offhours in response to emergencies associated with the water distribution system. Is is desirable that the applicants have their own vehicles to permit access to the various areas of the Town. Documented mileage will be reimbursed.

Applicants must be in good health, with an ability to perform physical work to both a regular and on-call schedule. Experience in workng with tractors and lawn maintenance equipment is essential. Ability to work with water distribution systems, to include minor repairs, will ae mandatory and experience with such systems is desirable.

The position involves maintenance of the Town of Washington and cf the Town of Washington water system. It does not include the oparation of the water system. The maintenance of the Town indudes ensuring the appearance of the Town is maintained through mowing, aking, and otherwise maintaining the borders of the Town streets, maintaining the grounds of the Town Hall, emptying the Town trash containers, ensuring Town equipment and other property is maintained, acquiring new equipment as directed, supporting Town clean jp after the July Fourth Celebration, watering flowers in Town barrels, nstalling and later removing Town Christmas decorations, and performing other such activities as are necessary to maintain the Town. Maintenance and support of the Town Water System includes supsorting contractors in making repairs to the system, making minor repairs, such as repladng meters, valve covers, and hydrant parts, flushing the system as needed, turning valves off and on as required, serforming maintenance of the pump houses and grounds, bushhogging pipe paths, taking monthly readings of water meters, conducting surveys of customers, taking monthly and quarterly samples, deliverng monthly samples to Luray, and providing other maintenance and general support as required. Employee may be required to obtain a Class 4 water system operator's license. The salary is $8 an hour negotiable depending on experience.
