She would like to see more availability of the vocational programs and hands-on skills taught so that the kids can earn a living when they get out of high school, because many of those who graduate from RCHS do not go on to college. “Working at McDonald’s is not a living,” she said.
Mrs. Manson has a strong background in nursing and has a Masters of Science in Nursing from the Catholic University, with a major in psychiatric/mental Health nursing clinical specialization and a minor in nursing administration. Currently, she works as a part-time private practitioner providing counselling for children, adolescents and families with an office in her home; is a parttime relief nursing supervisor at the Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Falls Church; is an on-site visitor of nurse aide education programs for the Virginia Dept, of Health Professions and Board of Nursing; is the Clinical Coordinator for the Rappahannock-Rapidan CISD Team in Culpeper; and is a volunteer consultant for Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Teams and other groups in the areas of stress management, problem solving, disaster management, project management and conference planning.
As a nursing administrator, Mrs. Manson dealt with budgets up to $10 million.
On a volunteer basis, she works as an EMT for the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department; the Red Cross; Hospice of the Rapidan; and is a Rappahannock County representative to the Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services Board. She also is co-chair with Beverly Atkins for this summer’s Fourth of July celebration in Washington.
In her spare time, Mrs. Manson quilts, bakes bread and does gardening.
