Hampton District representative Mike Massie said he thought it was a good idea to replace the roof as part of a continuing program of maintenance.

Jackson District representative Ellis Bingham suggested the supervisors approve only a $300,000 increase in county aide for the schools instead of the $431,000 requested. “I’d hate to see a tax increase,” he said. “Things in the economy are only going to get worse.”

Mr. Massie said he felt this school budget had a great deal of support in the community. Following the decision to cut the budget, he noted that it still represented the greatest increase
