The baseball and softball teams return home to host George Mason next Tuesday.
The track team had a tough time against George Mason and Central on April 26, with only one team member placing first in any event. Holly Gangel outran everyone in the 1600m run with a time of 6:08. Caroline Baumgardner finished fourth.
Holly finished second in the 3200m run; and Regan Nesmith came in fourth in the 200m run.
In the girls’ field events, Dawn Havstad placed second in the shotput, and Sarah Gentry came in fourth. Sarah also placed fourth in the discus.
In the boys’ track events, Willie Shanks again proved himself in several events, placing third in the shotput, long jump, high jump, and the 100m dash.
Mark Jenkins placed second in the 1600m run, and placed fourth in the 3200m run. Heplace fourth in the long jump.
Jason Carter finished fifth in the shotput, and Ozzie Villar came in fourth in the 800m run.
Soccer coach Uli Maeyer said he and his team are very upset about their loss to Central last Wednesday. He really felt that some bad calls by the refs caused Rappahannock to lose the game.
Rappahannock was leading 1-0 at the end of the first half, and “the team played absolutely excellent. I was convinced we would win,” said Coach Maeyer. His team, though, ended up losing 2-1.
