With only three members present the Water and Sewer Authority adopted a resolution to raise rates for Sperryville sewer system customers by $10 per month, a 46.5 percent increase.
That would bring the rate to $31.50 per month for a residence. It would mean a $30 increase in the average customer’s bill since bills are sent out four times a year, and a larger increase for businesses which are billed on a formula that computes their cost in “equivalent dwelling units” (EDUs).
According to the resolution the increase is needed to pay off the debt for installing a surge basin in the plant, for increasing operating expenses and for future maintenance and capital projects.
With four members present in June the WSA had agreed to advertise the $ 10 increase, but they found they had to follow certain procedures, and County Attorney Peter Luke gave them a form to follow. A public hearing on the rate increase is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 23, in the
