It happens nearly every year — 75 sleepy-eyed kids and 17 teens wake up, get ready, and board one of two buses which then take them to the Northern Virginia 4-H Educational Center where they attend a week long day camp session.
Although last year’s camp was cut short due to severe flooding, 92 Rappahannock 4-Hers were at day camp June 24-28.
“It was a lot of fun and I thought it was a good experience for the kids,” commented one counsellor, Kyla Andreoni.
Not only is it a good learning experience but 4-H camp is also positive encouragement for the children to become more outgoing and understanding of other people.
During the session, campers take four classes a day which are taught by teens and adults. Some of the choices this year were the Traditional Crafts and Archery. There was also a class called Fun and Games where campers played games such as jacks and pick-upsticks. In another class, Creeks and Critters, campers went in the creek to find aquatic animals. | The Rappahannock Animal Welfare League also brought in anii mals for Pet Care.
