Council Settles
For Asphalt
Washington Town Council considered trying to get something other than black asphalt when town streets are repaved this summer but backed off when members learned of the problems.
Member Reinhardt Lynch asked if it would be possible to have the streets paved with a pebbled surface like the sidewalks.
Treasurer Louise van Dort and Mayor Stewart Willis, who had met with VDOT resident engineer Robert Moore, said it would require a one-year delay since the bid accepted was based bn ordinary asphalt, would last only about three years and would cause numerous problems.
