Alabama graduated from the University Military School in Mobile, received his Bachelors Degree from San Francisco State and did a years graduate study in Economics at U.C. Berkely. He was a Marine veteran and received a Purple Heart while serving on Saipan during World War II.
He was active in conservation groups such as Trout Unlimited and maintained an avid interest in the out of doors throughout his life, including fishing, sailing, and spending time at his farm in Rappahannock County For the last four years he had been a part of the Fairfax Hospital Volunteer Services.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sara E. Evans, two sons, F. Whit Evans and Jeffrey C. Evans and two grandsons, Patrick N. Evans and Jeffrey L. Evans.
Irva Poe
Irva Mae Poe, 83, of Amissville, died on July 11 at her brother’s home in Amissville.
She was bom on May 3, 1913, in Rappahannock County, a daughter of the late John James Poe and Mayo Riley Poe.
She was a member of Amissville Baptist Church.
She was- retired after 35 years as the owner and operator of Lombardy’s Lunch Room in Amissville.
Survivors include one sister, Violet Welch of Arlington; one brother, Ronnie Poe of Amissville and five nieces and nephews.
