William Carrigan has played in promoting the town’s Fourth of July celebration. The vote was 6 to 0 with member Ray Gooch abstaining. Mr. Gooch said he could not vote for the resolution because he was concerned about some of Mr. Carrigan’s comments at the June Town Council meeting.
Member Charlie Tompkins said RAAC had only made about $400 on the Fourth of July celebration and that was with perfect weather. “It concerns me the bath we’re going to take. if the weather doesn’t cooperate,” he; said.
Frank Reynolds said RAAC did not expect the July 4 celebration to be a “major fundraiser, but there is i concern about what happens when it rains and RAAC is out about $4,000.;
Mr. Tompkins said it was closer to $10,000.
Mr. Reynolds suggested the town try to find some sort of insurance that would cover RAAC’s “out of pocket expenses” in the event of bad weather. ...' •<
Mayor Willis said he had talked - with VDOT people about putting^ historic marker on U.S. 211 explaining the history of the town. It would cost about $ 1,100, he said. J.
“Before you invite people in, you have to have something for them;’’ member Peter Skowronski said. He said people are using the road by the mill as a place to stop and change the baby’s diaper and throwing the old diapers into the Rush River.
Mayor Willis said he was interested in taking on a project for the town next year and “that’s one to take oa” .
Mr. Gooch said the town needs “some sort of welcome station with rest rooms” -
