Bluemont Summer Concerts are now going on every weekend in Culpeper and Luray as well as Warrenton.
The concerts in Culpeper begin at 7 p.m. on Sunday evenings on the lawn of the old Courthouse in downtown and move to Culpeper County High School in case of bad weather. The concerts in Luray are at 7:30 p.m. Saturday evenings at the Inn Lawn Park on Zerkel Street. In case of bad weather the concerts are moved to Luray High School. In Warrenton the concerts are on the lawn of the Warren Green on Saturday evenings beginning at 7:30 p.m. and move to Warrenton Middle School in bad weather. There is a suggested donation of $3 per person per performance.
This weekend Andrew Roblin and the Pocono Mountain Men will be performing in Warrenton. Sassparilla comes to Luray, and the Dixie Power Trio will be in Culpeper.
Andrew Roblin and the Pocono Mountain Men play bluegrass music although Mr. Roblin was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Andrew Roblin is no Southerner, but he hopes 3)1 uegrass fans will excuse him. "1 never really was accepted very well by bluegrass people because I’m not a Southerner — much as I’d like to be one — and bluegrass is not in my blood,” he said. But he does love bluegrass. His love of this form of traditional American music drew him to Nashville at the age of 19. During his 10 years there, Mr. Roblin mastered the standard bluegrass banjo and guitar sounds that form the basis of his music.
Sassparilla is a seven-member Washington-based band which performs a high-spirited blend of swing, rhythm and blues, and boogie-woogie. In addition to original compositions, the band’s repertoire includes upbeat, clever arrangements of songs from the 1920s and 1930s to the 1980s by such artists as Louis Jordan, Dan Hicks, Bob Wills, Hank Williams and Big Joe Turner.
