Courthouse. WSA members were going to seek Mr. Luke’s opinion on whether the increase could be made retroactive to July 1.
They also voted unanimously to withdraw $15,000 from savings to pay the county back for salary and benefits paid to WSA employees for the period Jan. 1 through June 30, 1996. Member Carson Johnson, who is the WSA treasurer and vice chairman, said he had received a bill from the county for $22,893, but had only $851 in the checking account at the end of June. Another $43,000 is in a savings account. Most of this money is left over from the original grants that paid to have the system installed, and over the years, members of the WSA have tried to keep this money for capital projects.
Mr. Johnson noted that the bills covering April through June had just gone out at the end of June and money was coming in, but even if it all came in, it would not be enough to pay off the county.
