Thc first day of public school on Monday was fairly routine with 1,005 students in attendance. That was a slight drop from the 1,008 * m , .,,1
The major problem of the day came at the elementary school when teachers arriving before the students discovered that there was no water in the school.
An investigation revealed that a fuse had blown out over the weekend causing the system to lose pressure. Water pressure was restored by noon,, but the water was^discolored. Water was hauled from the high school, and drinking water stations were set up in the elementary school.
Assistant principal Richard Smith said the water will be tested for bacteria, and the water will not be used until it passes that test and the discoloration is gone.
Breakfast and lunch were served using foam trays.
