nately failing. We can stand around smiling together like a happy little village or we can look for some solutions! Let’s start by firing everybody with a “Dr.” in front of their name and install new leadership with old fashioned basics the primary concern. The new leadership, teachers, and most importantly the parents (not the village) should be held accountable for each child’s education.
Instituting this locally and throughout our nation our public schools should be able to compete with third world countries and maybe someday compete with modem industrialized nations.

To the Editor:
The August 14th issue of The Rappahannock News reported that Dr. Gangel, our School Superintendent, stated to the School Board that if they asked him to he could “guarantee” a 80 percent passing rate of the Literacy Passport Test which also means a 20 percent guaranteed failure rate.
This test is given first in the 6th grade. It can be retaken in the 7th and 8th grades if not passed, but the State emphasizes passing it the first time and rightly so. Which brings the Rappahannock schools to the dilemma they now face — only 47.3 percent passed the test last school term. If not passed by the 8th grade, the student cannot accumulate credits toward graduation in the 9th grade.
I have a few questions for the readers to think about and the school administration, including the teachers,
