Driveway Project
Moves Ahead
The Library Board moved somewhat closer to getting a paved clriveway and parking lot for the county library at last week ’s Thutudn^iameUag^. ^ ,,,
A motion was passed 7-0 to pursue paving the parking lot and driveway with Joy Sloane abstaining.
“I hate to put an impervious surface down ” Mrs. Sloane said.
Then the board had. an indentical vote to ask the Friends of the Rappahannock Library to assess how much they could contribute to such a project. The cost is estimated at 20,000 to $25,000. The board has $5,000 set aside for siich a project and the possibility of asking to use $4,000 turned over to the county at the end of the last budget year.
A further motion to have the Buildings and Grounds Committee prepare specifications and information for presentation to the board at the September meeting passed unanimously.
President Roberta Anderson said she had received a request from Diana Bird, chairman of the Friday evening program committee, that the board allocate $200 to pay outside speakers. Mrs. Anderson said she felt such a request should be dealt with at the time the budget is being prepared.
Several members said they felt the program committee should continue to use local volunteer speakers.
