Front Royal is a trucking port for goods coming from Norfolk. There are plans to make it one of the largest access points for transportation, said Ms. Maier. Long range plans are looking at clearer road access. “We're trying to look unattractive to them,” she said.
Nothing has shown up on the U.S. Highway Department’s long range plans yet but with the new' emphasis that has been placed on Norfolk, RLEP thinks it’s wise to look at current trucking routes between there and Front Royal. . “We’re trying to stay ahead of the game,” Ms. Maier said. “We * need to let the highway department know we’re not interested, before it’s too late. We want to try to key ■ the majority of traffic to U.S. 81,17 and 29, not Route 522.”
RLEP invites all county residents to their next open house meeting at the Flint Hill fire hall on Monday, June 30 at 7:30 p.m.
They are inviting speakers from Middleburg and the Route 50 Corridor group to come and speak to residents about what they accomplished there.
It is up to the community to decide if they want to undertake a traffic calming study said Ms. Maier. RLEP is trying to assist by providing the necessary information to county residents so they may make an informed collective decision.
