Hitt is the nephew of James Shaw of Sperryville and Mr. Shaw is Mrs. Clark’s son-in-law.
With Mr. Hitt was his brother, John Elton Hitt, 21, also of Amiss ville. He was injured in the accident and airlifted to Fairfax Hospital with head injuries. Mrs. Clark was wearing her seat belt and the airbag in her car did deploy but those facts were not enough to save her life.
No one was charged in the incident and Gary Hitt received only minor injuries.The foliage which was partially obstructing a clear view of the stop sign on Route 621 has since been cleared.
