Who is accountable for allowing such abuse and neglect of sometimes unwanted and frequently troubled children? How many more instances like the Smeltzer child must this state endure before some of those agencies entrusted with child protection take their responsibilities seriously? What are the state mandates for child protection?
This madness of abuse and neglect of children must stop. It’s wrong. It’s criminal and offenders of such acts must be prosecuted to the fullest extent, allowable by law.
It is also very disturbing to know that Fairfax County officials telephoned E’s foster parents and requested them to retrieve E from the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office and transport him to another county for a weekend respite. How’s that for putting the fox in charge of the chickens!
