“It has always been my dream to have my own shop and the timing was just correct,” said Carolyn Hallissey who made that dream a reality when she opened Pockerknocker’s Reproduction Lighting and Wares in Washington, Va. in May.
Hallissey has 10 years of experience in the business, having managed the Lamplighter Shop and the Pennsylvania Furniture Store in Williamsburg. When a friend here told her that the shop, which is located in the same building as Mrs. Coxe’s Tavern, might be available she arranged a meeting with the building’s owner, Fran Eldred who liked the idea of a colonial-style lighting business, Hallissey said.
That was this past December and since then things have moved pretty quickly for Hallissey. On March 21 she actually made the move. With a great deal of hard Work — moving, ordering inventory, painting (the shop is considerably lighter with its weathered-look walls) and setting up — Hallissey managed to open the business May 8. She named it Pockerknocker’s after a childhood game she played where she was a lady
