I told her I was afraid she was going to be persuaded to join them, and she said never, that she was an Old Baptist through and through, “I was bom an Old Baptist and I’ll die an Old Baptist.” Then she remembered and related to us a visit a week or so before from her former pastor and his wife, Elder Elmer and Sister Tessie Skeen.
Holding her hand in mine for most of the two hours we visited, was for me, a treasured act, one committed to my memory, and laid up in my heart. Her plea for more frequent visits from us was saddening, but we promised to do our best and come as often as we could.
Two hours seemed to be enough time spent as she grew tired and needed to lie down. She allowed us to take some pictures and said she wouldn’t mind if we put it in the “news”. We kissed her good-by and told her how much we loved her with a promise of returning again soon. She misses all her friends from Rappahannock and desires to hear from them more often.
