Gangel said, “I’m gratified and extremely pleased,” with the Greve Foundation grant. He said efforts over a period of years to work toward school improvement can be combined with the grant so that it can “dramatically benefit” the school system. He said part of school improvement is knowledge of what works, but another part is creating a climate where change can occur. Too often change is held back by fear, he said, but there has been enough focus on the process so that is no longer a large issue in the Rappahannock County schools.
Manookian said even before teachers and others left the conference, she saw changes taking place that will benefit Rappahannock students. Working together on the council helped build a feeling that “good, things are already in the wind.”
