On June 17 the final proposal was approved by both the Headwaters Board and the Greve Foundation. On June 21 a group of people left for the Effective Schools Conference in Myrtle Beach, S.C., to learn how the research can be applied to our own school, system.
Most of those attending the conference were teachers. In addition, superintendent David Gangel, assistant superintendent Mary Anne Biggs, the Wakefield District School Board member Rosa Crocker, and Dave Gillis who as a Headwaters Board member will be replacing Lois Manookian on the school council, also attended.
Raye Tupper, who has been involved with the council from the beginning, said the entire enterprise has been “a real challenge, but we have seen it as a wonderful opportunity.” Of the Myrtle Beach conference she said, “We have been to the mountaintop. Now the challenge is to see how it applies in our situation.”
