Giving credit where credit is due, a Rappahannock Athletic Association board member observed from the sidelines, “The two teams playing (in the championship finals) are two tremendous teams. The pitcher for Peachtree brings the ball to the plate as fast as any 12-yearold I’ve ever seen.”
Buck Birckhead, from Greenwood, held a talented Greene County team to only one run in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Peachtree team won in a romp, consistently striking out Greene County batters and scoring 11 times.
County 12 and Under AllStar coach Brooke Miller praised his team, calling them “very competitive with Greene County.” Centerfielder John Letsen made “spectacular diving catches,” said Miller, and Nate Welch “pitched well in the second game” against Northside. Rappahannock lost both games.
In the 10 and Under tournament held in Ruckersville, the Rappahannock County All-Stars finished third overall in the tournament, losing twice to Greene County who advanced to the championship game. “We played a great tournament,” said coach Hodge Miller. “We scored a lot of runs, played very good defense and ran the bases well.”

Old Rag Pony
Club Gymkana
this weekend
The Old Rag Mountain Pony Club will hold a Gymkana, games on horseback, to benefit the club. The event will be held on July 11, rain date July 12, at David Semmes’ Indian Run Farm in Huntly.
The event starts at 9 a.m. sharp and the entry fee is $4 per class. Four ribbons will be awarded per class and food and drink will be available on the grounds.
