Post office woes
Will an agreement be reached or will
post office go to Culpeper?
The possibility of a regional post office going in at
Clevenger’s Corner in Culpeper County is once
again a good possibility. Jim Epstein, developer for the proposed village at Clevenger’s Corner, would no doubt love to have the post office locate there — in fact he has offered the land to them free. It would ensure a certain amount of traffic for the commercial area he has planned.
A group of concerned citizens from Amissville took issue with possibly losing their post office when this matter came up months ago. There were originally six sites talked about, at a meeting in the Amissville community at that time, as being possible sites for sale and for the post office to build. That number has been reduced to about three and only one is really negotiating with the postal system according to Bob Lindquist of Amissville, who came to address the supervisors Monday about the issue.
It all boils down to whether or not someone is going to be willing to sell to the post office and how soon an agreement can be reached. The post office, said Lindquist, wants to see some progress. If they don’t they may go to Clevenger’s Corner.
So, the real question is how badly does Amissville want to continue to have a post office in the village and is there someone willing to negotiate a settlement with the post office — or not?
