On Wednesday, June 17 Mrs. Ethel Tyner nee Atkins turned 103 years of age. Still quite mentally alert, but somewhat physically diminished, she still awes visitors. Her mind is still ready with information of the past, though, perhaps not quite as quickly but her wit is still intact. I tease her of her doctor and tell her how jealous I am that she is seeing another man.
Sally Keyser and myself visited her in Palmyra where she has made her home for the past couple of years with her son and daughter-in-law. There, she awaited us in her favorite colored “red” dress, her tiny figure sitting in a dimly lighted room. As we enter I turned the overhead lights on so we could all see each other better. She was alone when we arrived as her son and his wife had to go to work. They returned about an hour afterwards. We presented her with cards and gifts of food and flowers, whereupon she pointed to a vase of flowers given her by
