Creature program at Library

Bugs and other creepy crawly creatures will be featured at the Rappahannock Library on Saturday, July 11 at 2 ,p.m. The Fauquier County Office of the Virginia Cooperative Extension will bring live and dead specimens to the Rappahannock Library so that Reading Program participants and their parents can learn how to identify some of the things that slither and crawl around gardens and homes. The program is free and open to the public.

Historical picnic scheduled

The annual Rappahannock Historical Society’s picnicwill be held Friday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Meadow Green, the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Kiser in Slate Mills. All paid up members and their house guest and potential new members are invited. Dues may be paid at the gate. Bring your favorite dish to share - casserole platter, salad or dessert. You will need a folding table and chairs, or a blanket to spread on the ground. The Historical Society will provide coffee, iced tea, soft drinks, club soda, plastic dishes, glasses and cutlery. A social time before dinner, bring your own choice of “cheer”.

Ragged Mountain activities

The following activities are scheduled through Ragged Mountain Resource Center, Sperryville:

Saturday, July 11: Second Saturday hike series to Rappahannock River Tributary Trails in Shenandoah National Park. Destination: Hughes River Trail in Nicholson Hollow, meet at Mountainside Market on U.S. 211 west of Sperryville between 8:30 and 9 a.m. and return by mid-afternoon. Bring food for self and appropriate outdoor gear. Call 987-3366 for additional information.

Friday, July 17: “Blue Ridge to the Bay”, speaker series at Rappahannock County Library. James Atkinson, Fisheries and Wildlife Biologist at Shenandoah National Park will present a program on his work with Bird and Bait Stations and topics related there to, including remote camera wildlife photography, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Rappahannock County Library on U.S. 211 near Washington.

Art camp scheduled

Children from age five to 12 are invited to attend Art Camp at the Rappahannock Recreation Center the end of July and the beginning of August. Jeanne Drevas will be teaching Clay and Sculpture from July 27-31. Laurie Marshall will be teaching Drawing and Painting Aug. 3-7. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and costs $40. Former employees plan reunion

All former Aileen employees and their families are invited to a reunion on Saturday, July 18 at 12 noon at the Flint Hill carnival grounds. Those attending are asked to bring a covered dish and a drink. For additional information call Joyce at 987-8091.

Hitt dinner scheduled

The fourth annual Hitt Researchers Dinner is planned for Friday, July 17 at the Holiday Inn in Culpeper. Prepaid reservations of $17 per person made payable to Mary Doyle Johnson must be mailed by July 11 to Mrs. H.W. McNamara, 1600 South Joyce Street, #833. Arlington. Va. 22202.

Soccer Camp deadline extended

Soccer Academy will offer their ternfic one-week soccer camp at RCES July 13-17. Learn new skills and sharpen old ones. Mini-camp for ages six and seven from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., costs $110. All-day camp for ages seven to 16 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., costs $135. Registration forms available at Mountainside Market in Sperryville and Hackley’s Store in Amissville. Farmer's Association plans dance

The Rappahannock Farmer’s Association will sponsor a dance on July 25 from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. at the Rappahannock Elementary School. All types of music will be provided by: Wrights Big Band. The event will be casual dress and $10 charge per person. Children are welcome, under 12 years of age admission is free. A free swing lesson is included and refreshments will be served.
