Cheryl Poling, who won the title of Amissville Carnival Queen, received her tiara from Debbie Poe, outgoing queen in a ceremony held Friday night in connection with the annual carnival. The 10th annual Market Hog Show and Sale, held recently in Courtland, drew the largest crowd ever to attend one of these events. Randall S. Updike of Washington was a repeat winner of the sweepstakes contest in which points are awarded for placings in the various classes. Pvt. Roy A. AltheR son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Alther^of Sperryville is stationed near Augsburg, Germany. The Boston-Slate Mills Homemakers Club met Aug. 19 at the home of Mrs. Howard J. Waddell of Boston. Mrs. Waddell was elected Chairman and Mrs. Gordon Thornhill was elected Secretary.
