Other services include emergency home repair, for things like ruptured pipes, and emergency fuel assistance. They also run a cooling program during the summer months.
To qualify for the program, one must meet the U.S. Department of Energy income guidelines. Ms. Shaw isn’t allowed to disclose what those guidelines are, but said that anyone who is interested and believes they qualify should apply for the program.
If a person is approved, a VMH representative will contact them to schedule an inspection and estimation. At that time, the client will be given a rough time frame for completing the work.
There are two ways to apply for the VMH Weatherization program. Interested individuals may pick up applications at the Rappahannock County Social Services Office. Applications may also be obtained by contacting VMH, Inc., 823 South Loudoun Street, Winchester, Va. 22601. Or you may call Norma Jean Shaw at (540) 662-8960, extension 14.
Ms. Shaw will be at the Rappahannock County Public Library on Friday, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m. to give a brief presentation. She will speak for ten or 15 minutes and then show a short video. Ms. Shaw will also be available after the presentation to answer any questions.
