Wilder’s tenure as governor. “But I got lonely over there. I was a conservative at heart,” Ennis said. Other observers familiar with county, politics note Ennis’ failed bid for the Board of Supervisors as the point of his disenchantment with the Democrats.
“Four years ago, I aligned myself with the Republicans because I believed in the vision of Gov. George Allen. He was doing good for Virginia and I wanted to help,” Ennis said.
He said he was warmly received by Republicans Paul Lawrence, Jeff Parker and Jay Katzen. His ability to mobilize a coalition of small builders in support of the county’s special exception processes was a key factor in the Fauquier effort to combat House Bill 2324, then being steamrollered through by major developers.
