I’ve never been to bluegrass country. I do not, in fact, even know what country that is. I always thought t;hat bluegrass music was something played on a fiddle and banjo, and your name had to be Jethro or something like that, and you only played that music when drinking moonshine and “settin”’ on some porch in an old creaky rocker. What did I know? Foolish me!

I was happily disabused of my fallacious notions at Charlie Tbmpkin’s house in Washington, when he and Jimmy Gaudreau and Jimmy’s lovely daughter Adrienne gave me a bluegrass primer while we listened to some of that banjo- and fiddle-less bluegrass that Jimmy and his partners play.
