travel through, yet we do not expect a tax credit for those roads we’ll never use. Quakers, who believe all wars are unethical, do not get a tax credit for that portion of their tax dollar spent on defense or the prosecution of a war.
The education of all our children is the foundation of our democracy. Educated citizens drive the economy, protect our Constitution and ensure our future greatness. My tax dollars help pay for a public education system available to all children within our borders, regardless of ability, wealth, race, gender, language barriers, or religious preference. In this country under our laws no child is determined to be more special or more deserving than another.
My husband and I have no children. We understand that our taxes are providing for our neighbors’ children and the children of people we will never meet. It is our responsibility as citizens and taxpayers to provide for the finest “free” public education for all school age children. A tax credit would be unthinkable. If for none other than purely selfish reasons: when I’m a really old lady, I want the world to be populated by well educated, skilled, thoughtful and caring citizens.
