The dazzling violinist and composer Leroy Jenkins comes to Little Washington from New York for a concert at The Theatre at Washington, on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m.
Jenkins has received exceptional acclaim from a broad range of critics. The New York Times calls him “one of the best (jazz composers)," The Atlanta Constitution praises his “consummate virtuosity” and the San Francisco Chronicle describes him as “a master who cuts across all categories.” Rolling Stone has called him “the most gifted jazz violinist to emerge during the contemporary period,” while Rock and Roll News refers to his “unmatched precision, feeling and uncontrollable imagination.”
Jenkins describes his own work as a “bonding of a variety of sounds associated with the black musical tradition, while simultaneously bridging European styles, fusing jazz and classical music.” As Jenkins puts it he is continually inventing his own language in music.
