As the Virginia State Police and Rappahannock County Sheriffs Office continue their investigation into the vandalism of Montpelier, the owners of this 400 acre historic mansion are repairing the damage and getting it ready to put on the1 market for $4 million.
Two of the daughters of the late James W. "Jim Bill" Fletcher have been cleaning up Montpelier since the vandalism in May. Truck loads of broken glass and china have been removed as well as antique furniture that was destroyed. When Fletcher, a prominent lawyer died in 1998, he left Montpelier to his four daughters. It is located on Route 231, seven miles south of Sperryville.
In a recent interview at Montpelier, two of the Fletcher daughters said they were continuing to prepare to put the grand 18th century mansion up for sale.
