Council member Alice Butler responded by saying that she was "very much concerned—I do know that we have a wastewater problem— and people need to do what they can first." Council member Alice King also expressed her concern with the problem, and said that "The first question is can the person do anything on their own."
The debate continued with more public expression of concern for the loss of the knowledge base represented by the committee and the loss of momentum to be caused by excusing the committee.
Mr. Lynch suggested that, given the two years left in council member terms, it would be better to maintain continuity by retaining the committee until the next elections.
