Lint Hill carnival dates set
The Flint Hill firemen's carnival will be held Wednesday, July 26 through Saturday, July 29. Wednesday night is family night and you can ride the rides all night until closing for one low price of $8. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights offer Wayne Blosser's famous chicken barbecue dinner and rides are $10 for all night.
The firemen's grand parade is Friday, July 28 at 6:45 p.m. and features the newly crowned Miss Virginia 2000, for her first public appearance. Saturday night is crowning of the queens and drawing of the raffle tickets. Again this year a pure bred black Angus heifer donated by Admiral Gardiner and cash prizes totaling $3500 will be awarded. Bingo will be held every night. Come and enjoy the rides, games, concessions, food and shows.
Health/Screening program set
The Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board invites persons 60 years of age and older to participate in the following Health Promotion/Screening program to be held at the Rappahannock Senior Nutrition Center:
July 26 at 11:30 a.m., blood pressure check and at 1 p.m. program by Cathy Dray with the Virignia Department of Deaf and hard of Hearing. If interested in attending any of these programs, contact Anita Richards at 825-3100, extension #3321.
Dennis at PEC office on Fridays
Bob Dennis will be at the Rappahannock Piedmont Environmental Office every Friday from 9:30 to 12. The public is invited to learn more about Conservation Easements, ask questions, learn the facts and/or draft your easement. The office is located at 12717 Lee Highway near Washington. Grass/Quail workshop slated
The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will sponsor a workshop on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Shenandoah County. Topics will include Quail ecology and recent research findings, timber management for early succession species and native warm season grass establishment and management.
Participants will be able to take part in a hands-on quail management exercise. The workshop will include an afternoon field trip of examples of good quail habitat management near the primary location. An added attraction is a bird dog demonstration. Summer Open House slated
Lord Fairfax Community College's Fauquier Campus will host a Summer Open House on Thursday, July 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the College campus in Warrenton. The public is invited to attend this informational session, which will feature tours and classroom demonstrations. Take advantage of an opportunity to win a free three-credit course at the open house. Refreshments will be served. Make plans to stop by and see the new campus. Summer camp scheduled
TASC for Teens of Jeffersonton is organizing and leading a two-week Canadian Wilderness Fishing Summer Camp to beautiful Northern Ontario for youth ages 10-17 July 29-Aug. 11. The trip will leave from Jeffersonton and include qualified and caring staff, complete instruction, round-trip transportation, meals, most camping equipment, cabin lodging and motorboat. Page derby set, applications accepted
Applications are being accepted for the demolition derby to be held Friday, Aug. 25 during the Page Valley Fair. Drivers must be 21 years of age. Cars may include any American made stock, hardtop automobile or station wagon. No oversize vehicles or trucks are allowed. Official entry blanks are available at your local auto parts store or by calling 743-4949. Registration is limited to the first 60 applications and yours will be acknowledged by return mail.
